This one-day conference hosted by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) will explore current priorities and what’s next for the red meat sector - open to anyone working in, or with an interest in, the Scottish red meat supply chain.
The programme will focus on the topics which matter most to the sector from supply challenges to emerging market trends and future opportunities, and you will hear from experts and leaders across the industry. There will also be a chance to engage and network, aiming to leave you feeling inspired and confident in shaping a more resilient, sustainable and thriving sector.

Future Thinking on Red Meat 2026 offers a full day of insight, discussion, and collaboration, bringing together influential voices from across industry, science, academia and politics. The day is designed to inform, challenge, and inspire current and future leaders, focusing on the key issues and opportunities shaping the future of the red meat supply chain.

QMS Chair Kate Rowell opens the 2026 conference, setting out the ambition for the day and highlighting the importance of collaborative leadership across the red meat sector.

The global shortage of cattle and other red meat species in major producing regions has affected markets all over the world in recent years. This theme will cover the key causes, impacts and opportunities to stabilise and grow the herd to meet strong consumer demand for beef, lamb, and pork.

A named individual for the keynote address will be shared closer to the event date. This pivotal speech will unite the hundreds of attendees across the Scottish red meat supply chain, cement the sector’s important role in supporting Scottish Parliament aims and generate excitement for afternoon’s programme.

QMS Chair - Kate Rowell is a fifth generation farmer running the 750 hectare Hundleshope farm on the Haystoun Estate, where the family have been tenants for 150 years. She runs the hill unit near Peebles with her husband Ed and their four children.
Secretary General of the International Meat Secretariat - Phil joined IMS as Secretary General in 2024 following a twenty year career with the red meat levy board in England, AHDB, where he was International Trade Development Director responsible for market access and an extensive global trade show programme. He has spent his working life in the meat and livestock sectors having trained as a butcher in a family business, graduated with a Masters in Meat Science and obtained a PhD in Animal Production.
QMS Chief Executive - As Accountable Officer for QMS, I am responsible to the Scottish Government for safeguarding all funds falling within the stewardship of the organisation. I am the link between the direction set by the Board and the implementation of its strategies by making sure the executive team delivers the activities necessary for QMS to successfully achieve its remit.

QMS Director of Marketing - I’ve recently joined QMS bringing nearly 30 years’ experience working across a number of well known food and drink brands. As Director of Marketing, I am responsible for developing the strategy and activity to deliver our ‘provenance’ pillar to grow the market share of red meat from Scotland in local, national and international markets.
QMS Director of Business Development - My role involves working collaboratively with the Scottish red meat industry to identify opportunities for the sector to maintain, build and access new market opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.

QMS Board Member - Carrie Ruxton PhD is a dietitian with over 20 years of experience consulting to a broad range of food companies and trade bodies. She served for several years on the industry funded Meat Advisory panel helping to communicate the role of red meat in a balanced diet to consumers. She served as a board member of FSS from 2015-2024 and as a trustee of the Nutrition Society from 2018-2024.
QMS Director of Communications and External Affairs - I am an Accredited Public Relations (PR) practitioner and career Communications professional, spending the last several years overseeing Communications for public sector food organisations. I joined QMS in June 2024 to lead QMS’s work on communicating the multiple benefits of red meat as part of sustainable Scotland to key audiences.

Please ensure you follow signage for Murrayfield Stadium, entering from Roseburn Street. The entrance is opposite the Murrayfield tram stop. On entering the gatehouse let the steward know you are attending the QMS conference and give your name. They will direct you.
Ample complementary parking is available at Murrayfield Stadium. Follow the instructions above and the steward will direct you to the relevant car park, where you will be given further instructions.
Haymarket Station is a 10-minute walk. Visit Network Rail for train times.
