Bathgate Butcher Creates Scotland in a Pie

Scottish Butcher’s Shop of the Year winner, Boghall Butchers, has created an exclusive Scotch Lamb PGI pie to showcase the best of Scotland’s natural larder at the Royal Highland Show (23-26 June).

In keeping with this year’s show theme, the Royal Highland Show Pie celebrates seasonal produce, using local ingredients from exhibitors at this year’s show such as Scotch Lamb PGI, East Lothian carrots, Ayrshire potatoes, local oil, spices and seasoning.

Owner of Boghall Butchers Paul Boyle, said: “The quality of produce available in Scotland is really a cut above the rest, so it wasn’t difficult to create something special for this year’s show. We often talk about Scotland on a plate but this is Scotland in a pie, bursting with delicious Scottish flavours.

“We work hard to deliver the very best to our customers and hope we can inspire others to champion Scottish produce.”

Graeme Sharp, QMS Marketing Executive said: “Butchers are at the heart of every community, providing their customers with quality produce, fantastic customer service and second-to-none product knowledge.

“Boghall Butchers, who were World Pie Championship winners in 2005 and 2009 and are members of the Scotch Butchers Club, have done a terrific job creating a special Royal Highland Show pie and I, for one, can’t wait to try it!”

Paul Boyle and his wife Christine, a pastry chef, will be hosting a pie masterclass on Sunday 26 June at the Quality Meat Scotland stand [578, avenue O] at 2.15pm, offering visitors a true taste of Scotland.

Bathgate-based Boghall Butchers was named Scottish Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2015 in November. They are members of the Scotch Butchers Club run by Quality Meat Scotland, which is a network of around 300 butcher retailers who support the Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork brands.
