A Clydebank High School pupil has been rewarded by Quality Meat Scotland and named Scotland’s top hospitality student.
Ryan Kee from Clydebank High School was presented with a £250 prize after emerging as the best student from a total of around 6,500 Scottish students taking hospitality courses.
During a special ceremony at the school Ryan received the award from Graeme Findlay, Qualifications Manager for home economics and hospitality at the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Jennifer McRae, Ryan’s teacher for the subject, also accepted a £250 meat voucher to purchase meat for use during home economics classes.
QMS Health and Education Coordinator, Jennifer Robertson, said: “We are delighted to continue our support for scholarship excellence in the area of Home Economics and Hospitality.
“QMS is about promoting the benefits of eating red meat as part of a healthy, balanced diet and we feel it’s important to back initiatives such as this to help give the next generation the skills to make use of Scotland’s excellent produce.
“We continually hear reports that more and more kids are leaving home with little idea of how to cook which highlights the importance of encouraging study amongst Scotland’s young people in the area of food and nutrition.”
Andrea Christie, Clydebank High School Home Economics and Hospitality Head of Department, said: “Ryan is an asset to the school and the Home Economics Dept. Throughout his hospitality courses Ryan always remained focused, kept his head down and never needed prompting.
“He excelled in Hospitality Intermediate 1 in 4th year and superseded his abilities during the Practical Cookery course this year. He’s a great ambassador for Clydebank High School.”
