Free Farmer Meeting Focuses on Making More from Pasture

Orkney farmers are invited to attend a free “Making More from Pasture” meeting being held on Thursday 4 October 2018.

Trevor Cook, a sheep and beef consultant and qualified vet from New Zealand, will be the key speaker at the meeting which has been organised by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS).

Mr Cook is well-known by farmers around the world for his work in farm consultancy, extension and research.

At the meeting, Mr Cook, who specialises in advising farmers on all aspects of production from grass-based systems, will speak about how livestock production revolves around feed and link this to grass production and profit.

He will also share his extensive knowledge on livestock production from pasture and lead discussions on how Orkney livestock farmers can improve the utilisation of grass on their farms to maximise output and keep costs down.

Emily Grant, Knowledge Transfer Specialist with QMS said: “I’m delighted that Trevor is able to come and speak at this meeting and I would urge anyone looking to make more from their pastures to come along.

“Trevor has a great depth of knowledge and experience in profitable livestock production from pasture.  I’m sure those attending will find it a very worthwhile meeting.”

The Meeting is on Thursday 4th October 12:30 – 3:30pm at the Ayre Hotel, Ayre Rd, Kirkwall KW15 1QX.  The meeting is free to attend, but booking is essential as lunch will be provided.  Please book via Eventbrite at the following the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/qms-making-more-from-pasture-tickets-50773960282 or call 0131 510 7920
