The Mart stars bidding for culinary success at Royal Highland Show
Two of the stars of the hit BBC series “The Mart” will be bidding for success in the kitchen instead of the auction ring, at this year’s Royal Highland Show.
Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ auctioneer, Colin Slessor, and trainee auctioneer, Scott Chapman, are set to take part in the culinary dual on Friday 23rd June at 11.40am, in Quality Meat Scotland’s Scotch Kitchen Cookery Theatre.
The culinary showdown is expected to attract a large crowd to cheer on the popular pair who will be creating a delicious dish from a mystery bag of ingredients, including a cut of Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI.
TV and radio presenter, Bryan Burnett, will be compèring the event to monitor the culinary prowess of the “dynamic duo” and take questions from the audience.
Earlier this month, Colin and Scott took part in a “warm-up” challenge ahead of the Royal Highland Show, which attracted a packed-out audience at the Taste of Grampian food and drink festival, hosted at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.
Colin emerged the overall winner of the event, using Specially Selected Pork as his main ingredient, which was perhaps due to Scott’s “neep” being “slightly underdone”. However, Scott is certain to be 100% committed to redressing this at the Royal Highland Show!
“Colin and Scott’s culinary antics at Taste of Grampian, including the creation of a new north-east delicacy – caramelised neep – had the audience hugely entertained,” said Jim McLaren, Chairman of QMS.
“We are looking forward to welcoming them to the stand and to sampling the dishes they create with Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI plus, of course, the contents of the mystery bags they will be offered on the day,” he added.
