French rugby champs try Scotch Lamb

The 2012 champion French junior rugby team will get to try Scotch Lamb PGI after taking on an Edinburgh team the morning before the six nations clash.

The event is part of Agneau Presto (‘Quick Lamb’), a joint initiative between QMS and the other UK, Irish and French levy bodies to help increase the amount of generic lamb eaten in France. Aimed at young people the campaign aims to show that lamb is the perfect meat for quick and simple meals at any time of day.

Agneau Presto is the sponsor of the French Juniors Rugby championship. The champion team will be taking on the Royal High Costorphine Cougars at Union Park on Sunday Morning before the six nations tie at Murrayfield.

Following the match, both teams will be attending a reception at the RHC Cougars clubhouse organised by QMS and French Levy body InterBEV, and have a Scotch Lamb stew for lunch to prepare them for the big match later in the day.

All the players will also be given a special Scotch Lamb / Agneau Presto rugby shirt and scarf to wave at the game and hopefully whet the appetite of the visiting supporters to try some Scotch Lamb while they are in Edinburgh.

Laurent Vernet, Head of Marketing at QMS said: “The Agneau Presto campaign is a great example of where the levy bodies can collaborate for the common good. Although France has traditionally been a major consumer of lamb, this campaign was launched to stop and reverse a decline and show mainly young and time poor consumers that lamb is a quick, healthy and versatile option.

“What better way to highlight the campaign than to help what could be the next generation of French rugby greats, and underline the importance of red meat as part of a healthy balanced diet. Hopefully the striking Scotch Lamb / Agneau Presto scarves and rugby tops will be picked up by the TV cameras at the six nations clash and broadcast throughout France.”

The initiative ties in with Quality Meat Scotland’s health and education activities, which has seen the organisation provide nutritional advice as part of SRU’s School of Rugby, which enables pupils to experience rugby, and improve their fitness and physical literacy.

Scotch Beef is also an official Sponsor of Scottish Rugby and will be advertising in the ground on Sunday, as well as on the pitchside LCD hoarding.
