Quality Meat Scotland unveiled an innovative new cooking “app” today (June 24th) at the Royal Highland Show.
The new app is aimed at helping consumers master the art of cooking the perfect roast or steak to make the most of the world famous Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork produced in Scotland.
Among the first to download the new app were celebrity cook, Lady Claire Macdonald, and Scotch Beef hunk, Chris Capaldi (pictured).
The app, which is suitable for use when cooking beef, pork or lamb, is currently available on the itunes website. An android version for other types of smart phones will be available in the next few weeks.
The app features easy-to-follow instructions, mouth-watering recipes, tips and shortcuts and a simple to use touch test. It also features a timer and alert function preparation advice such as how to choose the perfect cut and the importance of removing meat from the chill to stand for a short period before cooking.
The app helps the person cooking to determine cooking time and gives a helpful ‘beep’ when it is time to take action – for example to turn a steak. It takes users through the simple steps of different cooking processes such as determining cooking time for a particular thickness of steak, allowing for whether it is wanted well done, medium or rare.
Suzie Carlaw, Quality Meat Scotland Marketing Manager, said the new app had taken three months to develop and will be a useful aid for cooks of ages and skill levels.
“What we are aiming to do is bring tradition and innovation together so the latest technology can help consumers get the best from our wonderful, traditionally produced beef, lamb and pork.
“By using this simple-to-use app cooks of all levels of ability should be able to get maximum enjoyment from eating steaks and roasts.”
The app can be found in the itunes store by either searching under “perfect steaks and roasts” or following this link http://itunes.com/apps/perfectsteaksandroastsqualitymeatscotland.
