Scotch Lamb was centre stage as one of the iconic Scottish dishes which featured in the ‘Scotland Week’ celebrations in Canada last week.
Every year in the USA and Canada thousands of people come together to celebrate Scotland Week, the annual celebration of all things Scottish.
Over 50 million people across the world proudly claim Scottish ancestry and the majority of them live in the USA and Canada where Scotland Week offers an opportunity to reconnect people with their heritage and sample top quality produce from Scotland like Scotch Lamb PGI.
As part of the week long ‘Scotland Week’ celebrations, a special event was held in Ontario to showcase Scotland’s food and drink. The event was organised by Scottish Development International (SDI), and hosted by Keith Brown, The Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Investment and Cities, in partnership with celebrity chef John Higgins, a Glaswegian who is now Dean of the George Brown Culinary College in Toronto.
Over 120 guests from across the food and drink sector in Canada attended this event, including senior decision makers in retail and food service, industry and consumer media and wider business contacts.
The menu featured Scottish dishes including Scotch Lamb lollipops with spinach puree, Scotch Lamb loin served with mustard ice-cream, along with other iconic Scottish brands. The event offered an excellent opportunity to sample Scotch Lamb and showcase its potential for the Canadian market.
Laurent Vernet, Head of Marketing at Quality Meat Scotland, said he was delighted that Scotch Lamb had been so well received by those present.
“This is the first time that Scotch Lamb PGI has been offered to the Canadian food industry to taste, and the feedback we received has been extremely positive,” said Mr Vernet.
“It is very important for the Scottish industry to explore the potential of new markets outwith the Euro zone and we are very encouraged by the genuine interest that has been shown in Scotch Lamb by the Canadian food and sector. This augers well for the future.”
