Farmers in the north of Scotland are invited to attend one of the free Suckler Cow and Bull Management workshops being held over the next few weeks.
The four workshops, which have been funded by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and facilitated by SAC Consulting, a division of Scotland’s Rural College, will take place on the Isle of Lewis, Dalmally, the Isle of Bute and Uist.
These farmer-focused events will cover topics such as suckler cow nutrition, bull management, cattle health issues and genetics. There will also be an opportunity for general discussions on issues that are of direct concern to farmers who may attend.
Robert Gilchrist, QMS Knowledge Transfer Specialist and one of the workshop facilitators, said: “These events will offer a valuable opportunity for beef farmers to increase their knowledge with regard to managing cattle on a tight budget.”
Gavin Hill, SRUC Beef Specialist, who will be speaking at the events said: “These interactive workshops will address the cattle issues that are specific to the area where they are being held.
“We will also be joined by local vets who will talk about some of the cattle health issues local farmers currently face and provide an update on Johne's disease and BVD.”
Attendance at these workshops is free and lunch is provided. Please note that clean boots are essential for biosecurity.
