A Linlithgow food service operator has switched its main focus to selling direct to consumers after much of its trade business has almost come to a complete halt because of COVID-19.
Campbells Prime Meat is a business primarily made up of food service delivery to high-end restaurants across Scotland but many of its clients have, unfortunately, temporarily closed in the wake of the devastating impact of Coronavirus, although they are still making deliveries to the NHS, hub schools and social care settings.
The supplier quickly realised a need for consumers to still have access to excellent quality local produce, including Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork, so turned their efforts to focussing on the internet sales division of their business.
By promoting this offering, the company has seen a growth of over 400 per cent in online orders, as customers purchase the same high-quality meat they would be served in first class restaurants to be delivered to their doors.
The business has a fleet of over 60 vans that deliver products across central Scotland along with a selected courier supplying deliveries to the rest of the UK. Orders have now been limited to 700 per day to help cope with supply and demand.
Campbells has several highly skilled butchers on site, all of whom are trained in preparing foods in the strictest hygienic conditions, with meat sourced from trusted Scottish farms that follow the highest quality production standards, cut fresh to order and packaged safely in store.
All staff are also adhering to the extra hygiene measures set out by the UK and Scottish governments to help minimise the spread of COVID-19 and, in keeping with social distancing and isolation, contactless deliveries are being carried out.
Iain Brown, Operations Director at Campbells Prime Meat, said: “In light of these uncertain circumstances, we recognise the responsibility we have to provide a trusted and reliable service to as many people as we can.
“We are deeply saddened for our regular clients as so many of their businesses have been forced to close due to the impact of Coronarvirus and hope they will be able to fully recover from these testing times soon.
“That said, we must also adapt ourselves as a business so we can continue to provide as many people as possible with the reassurance that we can support them.”
Lesly Cameron, Director of Marketing and Communications at QMS, said: “It’s fantastic to see Campbells quickly adjusting to challenges presented by COVID-19 and committing to assisting the public during such a worrying time.
“Their delivery service means customers can easily receive high quality Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork from a trusted, large-scale food service operator – providing people with the peace of mind that is so important during these times.”
