Secretary of State Updated on Scottish Red Meat Industry

During a visit to the Royal Highland Show today (June 23rd 2011) Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Moore, met with leading representatives of the Scottish red meat industry.

Mr Moore was updated by Quality Meat Scotland Chairman, Jim McLaren, and Chief Executive, Uel Morton, along with senior representatives of the processing sector.

Among many areas covered with the Secretary of State was the important role which livestock production and red meat processing plays in the Scottish economy. They also emphasised the key factors which differentiate livestock production in Scotland from elsewhere in the UK and overseas.
