Pork first up as Quality Meat Scotland’s Tasty Little Weeks return for pupils in Scotland

Following the launch of its well-engaged with Meat Voucher Scheme, Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) is proud to announce the launch of Tasty Little Pork Week, starting the week commencing 28 October 2024. This week-long celebration highlights the versatility and nutritional benefits of Specially Selected Pork to school pupils in Scotland and is the first in a series of Tasty Little Weeks spotlighting one type of red meat protein at a time.

QMS is committed to supporting educational initiatives that promote healthy eating and the importance of incorporating high-quality red meat into balanced diets. The Tasty Little Weeks initiative is designed to showcase Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb, and Specially Selected Pork, with Tasty Little Lamb week commencing next month to coincide with St Andrews Day, and Tasty Little Beef week in the new year.

To enhance this initiative, QMS promotes collaboration between schools and members of the Scotch Butcher Club, encouraging the use of up to £180 worth of vouchers to spend with their local Scotch Butcher Club member on Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork.

Tracy Martin, Health and Education Coordinator at QMS, commented: “It’s fantastic to once again offer Tasty Little Weeks to pupils and educators in Scotland, promoting the nutritional benefits of red meat.

“Participating schools can use their meat voucher to purchase our premium brands in their local nominated butcher, and follow our lesson plans, resources and delicious recipes to try in class.

“For Tasty Little Pork Week, I am particularly excited about the new Teriyaki Pork and Broccoli Stir Fry and Swedish Pork Meatball Pasta.”

QMS encourages teachers to enhance the learning of their young people by using the digital Tasty Little Pork Week lesson resources with their pupils, or by bringing the learning to life by inviting a QMS Scotch Ambassador into class to deliver a learning session, possibly including a cookery demonstration

Tracy added: “We want to inspire schools to make the most of the accessible and engaging resources available, including the Meat Voucher Scheme, the Farming Foodsteps online tool, and our Ambassador Programme. These resources provide teachers with the tools they need to plan and deliver lessons on sustainability and nutrition across their curriculum.”

Additionally, as we celebrate Tasty Little Pork Week, we are delighted to tie in with "Porktober," a wider celebration of pork in the month of October.

Andy McGowan, QMS Board Member said: “As we celebrate 'Porktober’, we’re pleased to highlight the exceptional quality and versatility of Specially Selected Pork. By engaging schools, we aim to inspire the next generation to appreciate the value of sustainable, high-quality red meat, and understand where it comes from.
