Scotch Butchers Club and John Scott Meat Champion Quality at LiveScot 2025

The renowned LiveScot, the Scottish National Fatstock Club’s flagship livestock event, took place on Saturday, 22 November 2025, at Lanark Auction. This year’s show once again featured the Royal Smithfield Club Beef Ribs and Saddle of Lamb competitions, judged by Tom Courts from Tom Courts Family Butchers and proudly supported by the Scotch Butchers Club, run by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), alongside John Scott Meat.

Taking home the silverware and achieving an impressive double, Willie Purdon, who farms near Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, stood as both Rib Champion and Saddle Champion, securing the Supreme Champion titles in the Native Rib and Heavy Saddle classes.

Reserve Champion Rib was awarded to Paterson with a Limousin-cross entry in the Continental Rib section, while Reserve Champion Saddle went to G. Whyte, winner of the Light Saddle class. The event culminated in Mr Purdon being presented with both perpetual trophies by Royal Smithfield Club Chairman, Simon Orpwood, after a highly competitive and visually outstanding display, supported by Jason Ward and the John Scott Meat team. A special thank you also goes to Steven Strachan, owner of Scotch Butchers Club member Strachan Craft Butchers, for creating the fantastic beef and lamb displays showcased at the event.
